Mumbai News: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reports that throughout the course of six hours, from 1 am to 7 am, Mumbai received above 300 mm of rainfall at various locations. The Central Railways said that some trains were also canceled as a result of the intense rains. According to the city council, heavy rains in some low-lying regions caused waterlogging and interfered with suburban rail services.
BMC Declares School Holiday Due to Heavy Rain
“Heavy rain is also expected today. In order to avoid inconvenience to students, a holiday for the first session is declared for all BMC, government and private schools and colleges in Mumbai (BMC area). The decision for the next session will be announced after reviewing the situation,” the civic body said in a statement. The Civic body added that every piece of BMC equipment is operational on the ground. Additionally, it has asked Mumbai residents to reject rumors. There have been reports of water-logging from Vidyavihar Railway Station, Worli, Buntara Bhavan, Kurla East, King’s Circle, Mumbai, and Dadar.
Partial Resumption of Train Services as Water Recedes
In a statement, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) stated that the inclement weather had an impact on Central Railway suburban services. “Train services are affected at Sion and between Bhandup and Nahur stations. Rainwater was above the tracks so trains were stopped for nearly an hour. Now the water has receded a bit so trains are restarting but services are still affected,” the CPRO said.
Waterlogging, according to Central Railway, was the reason behind the delays in suburban and Harbour Line train traffic. Kurla-Vikhroli & Bhandup and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus are two of the impacted stations. Numerous buses operated by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) were rerouted as a result of waterlogging.
