Muzaffarpur Helicopter Crash: An Army helicopter crashed into water near Besi Bazar in Ghanshyampur Panchayat, Aurai block of Muzaffarpur district Bihar. The mishap occurred during a relief operation when the helicopter was releasing food packets among flood victims. One soldier on the helicopter lost his life, while sailors from the locality escaped the other passengers with full safety.
Engine Failure Leads to Emergency Water Landing During Flood Relief Mission
This Muzaffarpur helicopter crash had occurred while the chopper was ferrying personnel to Sitamarhi, a flood-affected region. Principal Secretary Disaster Management Department Pratyaya Amrit said that a major tragedy was averted due to quick thinking by the pilot. A mid-air failure of one of the engines prompted the pilot to make the instinctive, life-saving move to land the helicopter in water so that all the personnel on board survived the impact.
The district administration acted immediately on the crash. The SDRF team was sent to the rescuing operation immediately after the helicopter crashed. District Administration and SDRF Launch Immediate Rescue Operations
SSP Rakesh Kumar said the helicopter was headed back to Darbhanga after aerial dropping of relief materials in areas hit by floods. The Muzaffarpur helicopter crashed while doing an emergency landing due to engine failure in the flood-affected area under the Aurai block. Even before officials could arrive, Indian Air Force personnel were evacuated by local people quickly.
Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Subrata Kumar Sen assured the general public that all four on board had survived the crash and were being taken to Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital (SKMCH) for further health evaluations and treatment as a precautionary measure. Even though this incident is still under investigation, it can be said that the pilot’s courage indeed saved more lives in this heinous situation.
