Naveen Patnaik Sun Sets in Odisha! BJP Secures Majority, Leads in Lok Sabha Elections 2024

BJP Surges Ahead in Odisha Assembly and Lok Sabha Polls, Naveen Patnaik's BJD Trails

BJP Odisha

In Odisha, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made tremendous progress, surpassing the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) under Naveen Patnaik to reach the halfway point in the state assembly before 11:30 am. Of the 147 assembly seats, the BJP holds 76 of them, while the BJD holds 53 of them.

BJP’s Dominance in Odisha Assembly

The BJP is getting near to the majority threshold of 74 seats in the current assembly elections in Odisha, where they now hold a commanding lead in 76 of the 147 assembly seats. With 53 seats, the BJD, which has long been the state’s dominating force, is lagging behind, followed by the Congress with 12 seats.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is leading in Hijili but faces a tough contest in Kantabanji, where he is trailing behind BJP’s Laxman Bag.

BJP’s Performance in Lok Sabha Elections

The BJP’s success spans across various regions of Odisha, including Sambalpur, Balasore, Aska, Bargarh, Bhubaneswar, Bolangir, Sundargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi, Puri, Berhampur, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, and Keonjhar. The BJD leads in Jajpur and Aska, while the Congress is ahead in Koraput.

BJP’s Strategy and Appeal

The BJP’s successful campaign on Odia Asmita (Odia pride) is largely responsible for its outstanding showing in Odisha. The party openly hinted that VK Pandian, a former IAS official from Tamil Nadu and Naveen Patnaik’s deputy, will succeed the five-time chief minister. It appears that voters in northern, southern, and western Odisha have responded well to this tactic.
