Ajit Pawar: On Wednesday, separate meetings of opposing factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), commanded by Sharad Pawar and his nephew Ajit Pawar, will be held in Mumbai. Both have named two chief whips for their respective factions. The Ajit Pawar group will congregate at the Mumbai Education Trust (MET) facilities in suburban Bandra at 11 am, while the Sharad Pawar side has scheduled a meeting for 1 pm at the YB Chavan Centre in south Mumbai.
Jitendra Awhad Invites NCP MLAs and Office Holders for Faction Conference
The Sharad Pawar faction’s top whip, Jitendra Awhad, has invited party MLAs, MPs, and office holders from all over the state to the conference. Anil Patil, who has actively promoted the meeting, has been nominated by Ajit Pawar as the top whip for his faction. The talks are anticipated to clarify the precise number of MLAs backing each party despite conflicting statements. All 53 NCP MLAs, according to Ajit Pawar, who recently took the oath of office as deputy chief minister in the Shiv Sena-BJP government. The Sharad Pawar side rejects this, claiming that just 13 MLAs support Ajit Pawar. Ajit Pawar will need the backing of at least 36 MLAs in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly, which has 53 MLAs, in order to avoid triggering the anti-defection law’s provisions.
Over 40 Legislators Support Ajit Pawar, Asserts Coalition Partner
While the BJP, a coalition partner, asserts that over 40 legislators support Ajit Pawar, his side claims that 36 MLAs have signed a letter of support. The Sharad Pawar side, on the other hand, asserts that all MLAs, with the exception of the nine who joined the administration, are still loyal to the senior Pawar. A disqualification petition has already been submitted by the Sharad Pawar-led NCP against Ajit Pawar and the eight MLAs who were sworn in as ministers. The Sharad Pawar group’s nomination of Jayant Patil and Jitendra Awhad as the Leader of the Opposition has prompted the Ajit Pawar camp to demand their disqualification.
