New Delhi: Security camera footage reveals that a man who was apprehended snatching a phone attacked a Delhi policeman 12 times as no one intervened or even reacted in the crowd. Shambhu Dayal, a police officer in his 57s, passed away on Sunday, four days later. According to today’s announcement by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his family would receive Rs. 1 crore.

A significant number of people can be seen watching from a safe distance as Shambhu Dayal is brutally stabbed in the horrifying footage from January 4. The policeman can be seen going with Anish Raj, the suspected thief, whom he recently apprehended in the Mayapuri slums of west Delhi.
Police received a report from a lady alleging that Anish had threatened her and her husband while taking his phone. The woman pointed Anish in his direction when Shambhu Dayal arrived at the location. According to reports, the police officer discovered the stolen phone on him.
He pulled out a knife that was concealed in his clothing as Anish was being led to the police station and stabbed the officer in the back. In the video, Shambhu Dayal is seen getting stabbed in the neck, chest, and stomach by Anish. Anish gets pushed after the constable fights back, falls on the ground, and then takes off running. This time, he is pursued by the crowd.

Arvind Kejriwal said, “While protecting the public, ASI Shambhu ji did not even care about his life. He became a martyr. We are proud of him. There is no value for his life, but in his honor, we will give an honorarium of one crore rupees to his family.”
In a touching tribute, the Delhi Police hailed Shambhu Dayal for preventing the thief’s escape.
