Noida News: First Test Flight Expected by March 2024

The Noida International Airport is gearing up for its inaugural test flight, scheduled to take place as early as March next year, thanks to the timely progress of its construction. This advancement allows for the airport’s inauguration to happen earlier than the original plan of the end of 2024.

Key officials, including representatives from the Union home and civil aviation ministries, recently conducted meetings with the Uttar Pradesh government to outline the airport’s roadmap. Once operational, the airport is expected to ease congestion at the national capital’s airport and provide improved connectivity options for areas in western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

The meetings primarily focused on immigration and security-related matters. Although a formal order is pending, it is likely that the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will be responsible for safeguarding the airport, as disclosed by an anonymous official from the Union home ministry. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority has already approved land along the Yamuna expressway to accommodate CISF personnel.

Initially, the Noida airport, situated in Gautam Budh Nagar district, will feature one terminal building, one runway, and the capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually. Its development will unfold in four phases, with the fourth phase expected to conclude by 2040, accommodating a remarkable 70 million passengers per year.
