Noida News: Police Launches Special Campaign to Curb Air Pollution from Older Vehicles

Noida News: In an effort to combat air pollution in the Delhi-NCR region, the Noida Police initiated a special campaign targeting 10- and 15-year-old vehicles. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Traffic Police, Anil Yadav, revealed that 175 such vehicles were seized during the campaign. Additionally, hefty fines were imposed on the owners of over 7,000 vehicles found to be lacking fitness certificates or pollution certificates.

Focus on Aged Diesel and Petrol Vehicles

The campaign, which lasted for 15 days, primarily concentrated on taking action against 10-year-old diesel vehicles and 15-year-old petrol vehicles. Furthermore, the police cracked down on vehicles that lacked essential pollution certificates or fitness certificates.

DCP Anil Yadav shared annual data illustrating the impact of these enforcement efforts. Over the course of a year, 1,000 vehicles were seized, while more than 10,000 vehicle owners were fined for not possessing pollution certificates. An additional 12,000 vehicle owners faced penalties for the absence of fitness certificates.

Importance of Addressing Older Vehicle Emissions

The campaign’s focus on older vehicles is due to their disproportionate contribution to air pollution. Vehicles, depending on the quality of fuel and engine.
