Details of Garlic Vendor’s Ordeal Unveiled
The vendor had borrowed money from Sundar, the commission agent, a month prior, the FIR claims, for a total of ₹5600. These intermediaries, or aadthiyas, have influence in mandis and serve as a conduit between farmers and customers. The vendor requested extra time to pay back the remaining amount after returning ₹2500 on Monday. To his account and two labourers, Sundar cried out. According to the FIR, they dragged the garlic vendor into a stall, made him undress and beat him with rods. A murder threat was also made against the garlic dealer. Then he was led around the market in the open. Social media users have responded to the video strongly and called for harsh punishment for the offenders.
Charges Filed and Detentions Made in Garlic Vendor’s Assault Case
According to senior Noida police officer Dr. Rajiv Dixit, the complaint was initially filed under provisions of the Indian Penal Code that deal with intentionally inflicting harm, wrongful imprisonment, insult with the goal to cause a disturbance, and criminal intimidation. Assault-related charges were later added as part of the inquiry. The officer warned that those who shared the video will also be held accountable. According to him, police have detained the agent Sundar and another accused Bhagandas and are looking for the remainder.
