West Bengal: Responding to an earlier remark by State governor C. V. Ananda Bose, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the ongoing nomination process for Panchayat elections “was as peaceful as it could be”. Bose had visited Bhangore in 24 South Pargans Disrtrict, where political violence ensued during nomination process and 2 people were shot dead. During his visit to Bhangore said victory in elections should depend on count of votes, not the count of dead bodies.

Opposition responsible for creating disturbance
Mamata Banerjee alleged that BJP, Congress and CPI(M) were deliberately inciting violence by creating disturbances during filing of nominations. She also said that her party TMC is not responsible for violence and the 2 people who died in Bhangore were party supporters. She remarked that their killing was work of “some stray goons”. As per the Chief Minister, 82,000 nominations were filed from her party while other parties filled over 1.5 lakh nominations.
No need to deploy central forces
Mamata Banerjee also went on to say that . “There are 61,000 booths and the Centre is just focusing on two stray incidents.” In a response to Calcutta high court order to deploy central forces,”You have got central forces in Manipur too, yet a minister’s house was burnt and over 150 people were killed.” Mamata Banerjee alleged that the central government is “just searching for an excuse to deploy central forces in West Bengal.”
She also blasted at Congress for seeking her support in the Parliament. She alleged that Congress is best friends of BJP AND CPI(M), yet they seek TMC support. She said that she will stand with Congress in opposition to BJP but as Congress has allied with CPI(M) in West Bengal, they won’t get any support from het party.
