In Manipur, there’s a serious issue with both illegal immigrants and militants causing trouble. The NPP leader M Rameshwar Singh believes that strong action is needed to solve this problem once and for all. He compares this to a “surgical strike,” a targeted and precise action. The NPP is a partner of the BJP in Manipur, and they’re worried about the ongoing violence that has led to more than 150 deaths over the past three months.
The NPP leader emphasizes that the Home Minister’s statements show that some unauthorized Kuki militants and immigrants are coming from across the border. He’s concerned about external forces causing problems and even compromising national security. He believes that it’s not only important to protect Manipur but the entire nation.
This narrative creates doubts among the people of Manipur
He suggests taking effective measures, similar to a surgical strike, to address the problem thoroughly. He mentions that some people are trying to spread a story that all Kuki militants are in camps and have weapons. This narrative creates doubts among the people of Manipur about who’s behind the violence and who’s attacking from the other side.
Recently, the Manipur government began gathering biometric information from illegal immigrants from Myanmar who are living in the state. The government is worried because reports indicate that around 700 illegal immigrants entered Manipur in just a few days in July. These immigrants entered the Chandel district despite the ongoing violence in the region.
The conflict in Manipur has been ongoing since May 3, involving the Kuki tribe, which mostly lives in the hills, and the Meiteis, who live in the valleys. The central government has instructed the Manipur and Mizoram governments to collect biometric data from these immigrants, with the goal of completing this process by September.
