Nuh Violence: Raj Kumar, also known as Bittu Bajrangi, a cow vigilante who was detained on August 15 in relation to the clashes between Muslim and Hindu groups that rocked the Nuh and Gurugram districts, was given bail on Wednesday, according to his attorney. After hearing from both the public prosecutor and his attorney, additional district and sessions judge Sandeep Kumar Duggal granted his request for bail, according to attorney LN Parashar, who represented Bittu Bajrangi. The judge reportedly gave the judgement verbally; a formal order has not yet been given, according to Parashar.
Bittu Bajrangi’s Release Expected by Thursday Night
“We are waiting for the order in writing,” he said. According to Parashar, his client should be released from custody by Thursday night. The decision to free Bajrangi, the 45-year-old leader of the Hindu religious organization’s Bajrang Force, comes precisely two weeks after a sizable posse of armed police officers apprehended him on August 15 after a brief pursuit through the streets of Faridabad. Bajrangi was detained for reportedly flashing guns at the Brajmandal Dharmik Yatra, which was attacked on July 31 in Nalhar village of Nuh district, around 50 kilometres from Gurugram. Bajrangi had produced a provocative video the day before the yatra. During the yatra, there were clashes between Hindu and Muslim groups. Tensions quickly rose and spread to Sohna, Palwal, and Gurugram. Bittu Bajrangi was one of the 300 or so people the police detained for the two days of rioting that resulted in the deaths of six people and the injuries of another 88.
Lawyer Claims Raj Kumar Was Wrongfully Detained
Raj Kumar, according to Parashar, was taken into custody in connection with a case that had just been filed. “We submitted before the court that Kumar was not present at the spot and was falsely implicated. Most importantly, the FIR (first information report) was registered against him on August 15, a fortnight after the communal violence which indicates that it was an afterthought of Nuh police to book him,” he said, citing the submissions in the court. In four further instances against Kumar in Faridabad, according to Parashar, he has already been granted bail. On August 15, the Nuh Sadar police station filed a complaint against Kumar for allegedly leading a procession with swords and other sharp edged weapons near the Nalhar temple on July 31, interfering with police while they were performing their duties, mistreating with them, and stealing the weapons that the police had seized from the scene before fleeing.
