Nuh Violence: Haryana Suspends Mobile Internet and Bulk SMS Services in Nuh District

Nuh Violence: Following the arrest of Congress MLA Mamman Khan in connection with communal clashes that occurred in Nuh on July 31, the Haryana government has taken steps to maintain law and order in the district. The violence erupted following a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) yatra, resulting in six deaths and numerous injuries.

Internet Services Suspended
In response to concerns of potential unrest and public disturbance, the Haryana government has suspended mobile Internet and bulk SMS services in Nuh district for two days. The decision was taken to prevent the spread of false information and to maintain peace and public order.

Section 144 Imposed
Section 144, which restricts the assembly of individuals, has also been imposed in Nuh until further notice. Additionally, residents have been advised to offer Friday prayers at home as a precautionary measure to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order.

The Home Department Additional Chief Secretary, T V S N Prasad, issued an order stating that these measures are intended to avert potential tension, agitation, damage to public and private property, and disruptions to public peace and tranquility in the district. The order is in effect from September 15 (10:00 am) to September 16 (11:59 pm).

Background of the MLA’s Arrest
Congress MLA Mamman Khan, who was accused of involvement in the communal violence, was arrested on Thursday. He had previously approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking protection from arrest, with a scheduled hearing for October 19. The MLA claimed he was falsely implicated in the case, asserting that he was not present in Nuh when the violence occurred.

Haryana Police defended the decision to name Khan as an accused, citing “ample evidence” of his involvement in the violence. They presented phone call records and other evidence to support their case.

In his petition to the High Court, Khan had requested the formation of a high-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the cases related to the violence. He sought the transfer of these cases to the SIT to ensure independent and impartial inquiry.

The situation remains tense in Nuh, with heightened security measures in place around the court complex where Khan was produced by the police.
