One year of AAP in Punjab: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann completed one year of its five-year term on March 16, 2023. Over the course of one year, CM Mann government made significant changes which resulted into evident progress in the state. From its anti-corruption drives to crack down of gun violence and mohalla clinics to free electricity, the AAP government has delivered what it promised during its election campaign last year.
Greetings Punjabis on one year anniversary of AAP government in Punjab, CM Mann on Thursday laid down the historic badlaav (changes) that the state went through in last one year. He said that one year ago, while campaigning for the elections with the AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, who comes from a non-political background, we guaranteed the people of Punjab that major development will take place in the state. In the first cabinet meet itself, we decided to act upon vacant posts on various departments, the Punjab CM said. Developing mohalla clinics has been another biggest achievement of the government.
Employment
Punjab CM on Thursday said that as the government filled various vacant posts in the state across departments, the government was able to provide employment of 26,797 youths since coming to power one year ago. Marking 50 days in office last year in May, the CM Mann government launched a recruitment drive to fill over 26,000 posts. The recruitment on these posts was purely on the basis of merits as the Punjab government ruled our every scope for bribery.
Electricity
Another guarantee to the people of Punjab from the AAP government was free electricity, which was objected by many opposition leaders, said CM Mann. But on July 7, 2022, the Punjab cabinet approved the policy governing the decision to provide 600 units of free power to every household per billing cycle in state with effect from July 1.
87 per cent households in Punjab now pay zero electricity bill in the state, the CM said.
Agriculture
CM Mann further said that MSP was given on coral, 1500 rupees were given for direct sowing of wheat, 392 crores were given for sugarcane. In one year, 300 mohalla clinics were run, where 15 lakh people took advantage of them.
Recently, presenting the budget of Punjab for the fiscal year 2022-2023, finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced a hefty 20% increase in the allocation for agriculture and allied sectors.
Regulisation of contractual employees
The Punjab Cabinet last month gave its nod to regularise the services of 14,417 contractual employees. These employees had completed 10 years in office. The Cabinet approved a ‘Policy for the Welfare of Adhoc, Contractual, Daily Wages, Work Charged and Temporary employees’, which regularised the service of 14,417 employees.
