Nude Protest: A “nude” protest by young men who walked to the streets in order to draw attention to the problem of bogus caste certificates in government jobs in the state was witnessed by the Chhattisgarh legislature on the first day of the session. This is the first time a protest of this nature has been conducted in the state, despite the fact that the call for action over false caste certificates is not new.
Youth Go Nude to Demand Action Against Fake Caste Certificates
The protesting adolescents were observed going down the street without any clothing on. They held posters in their hands. Demands to take action against people who allegedly obtained jobs using false caste certificates were made on the placards. In an effort to draw attention to their protest from those in positions of authority, the youth protesting in the street while nude were seen fleeing whenever they spotted any VVIP vehicle. As the VVIP automobiles attempted to make their way to the gathering, the youth could be seen chasing after them while carrying banners.
Calls for Action Against False Claims in Government Employment
For a while now, the issue of fraudulent caste certificates being used in Chhattisgarh to obtain government employment has been in the news. A PWD executive engineer was demoted in 2021 for using a fictitious Scheduled Tribe (ST) caste certificate. Those opposed to candidates using false caste certificates to obtain government positions claim that despite repeated requests and the discovery of numerous such cases, the department has not taken any action. Those in protest claimed that employees with false caste certificates take advantage of all benefits without earning them and that the state commission does little to stop them.
