Patna News: Fancy Plates Under Scrutiny; Transport Department to Clamp Down on Rule-Breakers

Patna News

Patna News: The transportation department is preparing to take harsh measures against car owners who use flashy licence plates. The department has ordered all DMs, SSPs, and SPs to ensure legal action is taken against the companies that produce these number plates in their localities.

Transport Secretary Addresses the Issue of Flashy Number Plates

“Some people use fancy vehicle registration number plates, which are against the traffic rules. We had information that such number plates are manufactured at local level and numbers are marked on them in a stylish manner. Along with this, instead of the original registration number of the vehicles, fake number plates of different numbers are also being made at the roadside shops,” said Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, transport secretary. He said many vehicles could be seen with numbers imprinted on them in a different way in the city. “For example, the vehicle with registration number 8055 could be seen as ‘BOSS’. It is illegal to write registration numbers differently on the number plate of the vehicle,” Agarwal said.

Transport Secretary Vows Strict Action

He said that the authorities had been instructed to stop neighbourhood merchants from producing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) illegally. “Strict action will be taken against such individuals for violating Central Motor Vehicle Rules 50 and 51. To deter crime, fraudulent HSRP licence plates must be eliminated. Fake number plates that are fitted to vehicles make it harder to identify them in the event of an accident or other issue. This frequently causes police investigations to be delayed, he said.
