Patna News: The National Dolphin study Centre is being built on 2.5 acres of land near Patna University’s Law College, which is situated on the banks of the Ganga River, for study on the extinct Gangetic Dolphin. By the end of November, the building construction department hopes to have finished construction on the G+2 building. It is being prepped for an opening in December at a cost of roughly Rs 30 crore.
Collaborative Research and Education Opportunities at the National Dolphin Research Centre
In the building housing this research centre, which includes an auditorium, library, and research lab, will study PUK PG Environmental Science students. The Environment and Forest Climate Change Department, which also includes Patna University, has been handed control of this centre. For this centre, a committee of 22 officers has been constituted, with the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Department, PUK VC Vice chairperson, and interim director serving as the committee’s chairperson.
Expanding Horizons for Environmental Science Students at the National Dolphin Research Centre
This National Dolphin Research Centre would house Patna University’s PG Environmental Science department. The students will participate in the study process and learn many valuable lessons as a result. Bihar has a huge dolphin population. In such a scenario, people from various states in the United States as well as from outside will have the opportunity to do dolphin research here. The center’s building on university property will directly benefit the school’s pupils. University students will have the opportunity to conduct dolphin research.
Anticipated Inauguration of the National Dolphin Research Centre in Patna
It is anticipated that the Honourable Minister of Forest and Environment Department would officially open it in the first week of December, according to Dr. Gopal Sharma, temporary director of the National Dolphin Research Centre and a dolphin expert for the Zoological Survey of India. It may also be inaugurated by the Chief Minister.
High Dolphin Count in Ganga River Revealed
1448 dolphins were spotted in the Ganga river during the survey in 2021. The Ganga river was surveyed for dolphins from Chausa, near the UP border, to Manihari, in Katihar. Additionally, the Gandak and Ghaghra rivers, two tributaries of the Ganga, were the subject of a dolphin survey. It contained 195 dolphins. Additionally, a survey of the Kosi River turned up roughly 200 dolphins.
