Patna News: Thousands of aspiring teachers, including a sizable number of women, protested in force in Patna on Saturday in opposition to the Bihar government’s intention of removing the residency criteria for hiring teachers in public schools.
Police and protesters engaged in physical conflict while being stoned. When police used lathicharge and arrested numerous protestors, a handful of them suffered injuries.
In order to demand the removal of the new hiring guidelines, the protesters, who included applicants who had passed the Central Teachers’ Eligibility Test, contract teachers of primary and secondary schools, and unemployed youths, blocked numerous important crossings in the city centre.
The agitated young people attempted to get over multiple police-erected obstacles. Around 20 people had been held, according to Patna SSP Rajiv Mishra, and two different FIRs had been filed for obstructing government operations, causing traffic jams, causing property damage, and throwing stones at police.
According to him, the police are reviewing CCTV camera video and photo footage in order to take harsh action against the offenders.
Since the Nitish Kumar government on Tuesday began hiring teachers from all over the nation on the pretext that the state lacked enough qualified applicants, particularly in science and mathematics, to fill open positions, eligible candidates across the state have been in a rage and demand the immediate restoration of the domicile policy.
A protester named Abhishek Anand claimed that despite the government being given a 72-hour deadline, no response was received before Saturday’s rally was planned. He continued, “The CM would be compelled to reinstate the domicile policy.”
All of the state’s teacher organisations have also resolved to march together and hold a sizable protest in front of the assembly on July 13 in opposition to the government’s decision.
