The stretch of National Highway 3 between cities of Kullu and Manali in Himachal Pradesh was swallowed by rising levels of river Beas. A recent video that has gone viral over the internet shows portion of highway being swept away by the mighty rapids of river Beas after heavy rainfall. The highway has been closed in view of bad weather that might cause flash floods and landslides.
Sweeping of National highway
The incident happened on Sunday when rapids of Beas river suddenly rose to dangerous levels after heavy rains.
The video shows portion of highway being absorbed by the river. The event has been followed by several intervals of river Beas sweeping river banks in Kullu and Mandi districts as the drainage of the river is on continuous rise.
Rainfall wrecks havoc in Himachal
In Himachal Pradesh the downpours have caused significant damage to property and has hampered with civilian life. Flash flood in river Beas has caused evacuation and connectivity problems in many parts of Kullu and Mandi. NDRF has carried out several rwescue missions to evacuate people from dangerous zones.
On Sunday, 9 people died in 3 separate incidents of landslides in the state. The Sutlej river in Shimla district is also rising above dangerous level and preparations are being made in low lying areas of region.
