The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has detained and interrogated Prajwal Revanna, the suspended leader of Janata Dal (Secular), when he arrived at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru from Germany. Accused of sexually assaulting women in hundreds of filthy films, the 33-year-old Hassan MP was brought straight to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters to be questioned. Revanna will be put through a potency test by the SIT, which was formed by the Karnataka government led by the Congress, as part of the continuing inquiry.
Arrest and Immediate Interrogation
Prajwal Revanna, who fled to Germany last month after his former domestic helper accused him of sexual harassment, arrived back in India this morning. The complaint was filed not long after purportedly lewd recordings of Revanna started making the rounds in Karnataka. His grandfather, former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, urged him to return, telling him to confront the accusations head-on and that the family would not tamper with the probe.
Family Connections and Legal Battles
Revanna’s arrest comes amidst a series of allegations and legal troubles for his family. His father, HD Revanna, was recently arrested on charges of kidnapping a woman purportedly featured in one of the controversial videos. Though he is currently out on bail, the incident has further intensified the scrutiny on the family. Prajwal Revanna’s mother, Bhavani Revanna, is also embroiled in legal issues, seeking anticipatory bail in the kidnapping case, although she is not formally accused.
Ongoing Investigations and Political Turmoil
The main focus of Prajwal Revanna’s case is the SIT’s investigation into the sexually explicit videos. To support the accusations made against him, the team intends to do a potency test. In the meantime, to find out where Revanna was during his trip overseas, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had already sent out a Blue Corner Notice.
Political emotions are high since former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, who is also Prajwal Revanna’s uncle, has accused Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar of being responsible for the distribution of the incriminating videos. HD Deve Gowda has emphasised that his grandson must suffer the penalty if proved guilty, although the Revanna family has not openly backed Prajwal in spite of these accusations.
