Arunachal Pradesh: During a protest in Itanagar over the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak case, a clash between security personnel and protesters occurred resulting in 10 injured people, including four security officials. The protest was part of an indefinite bandh called by the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC), leading to the cancellation of the swearing-in-ceremony of the Chairman and Members of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission by the Arunachal Pradesh cabinet.
Section 144 imposed in region
As a response to the protests regarding the paper leak case, Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in the Itanagar capital region from midnight. Despite the administration’s imposition of Section 144, hundreds of youths continued protesting on the streets, resulting in some protesters burning down a motorcycle and one four-wheeler, damaging properties, and pelting stones at security personnel, causing the situation to turn violent.
Chukhu Apa, IGP (L&O), stated “Protestors had a demand regarding the deferment of the swearing-in ceremony of the Chairperson & newly appointed members of the State Public Service Commission. But, they should have respected the law & order.” He continued further by saying, “To control the situation, security personnel were forced to use tear gas and resort baton charges upon the protesters. Four security officials were injured during the clash. Adequate security personnel deployed in Itanagar capital region.”
