CM Bhagwant Mann: On Wednesday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann spoke at a news conference in Chandigarh and identified the player from whom bribes were requested for government jobs under the previous Congress administration. When Charanjit Channi’s nephew presented former Ranji Trophy player Jasinder Singh Baidwan as the one who was required to pay Rs 2 crore for a PPSC position, Bhagwant Mann remarked, “Isn’t it a shame that he (Channi) swore at a Gurudwara, claiming not to have met any player at all?”
CM Mann highlights Jasinder’s cricket achievements and credentials
After Channi’s deadline to provide information about the case expired today, CM Mann held a press conference. There were also Jasinder and his father in attendance. The player’s introduction by CM Mann said that Jasinder had competed for the state in the Ranji Trophy. In addition, he has competed for the state in competitions for the Vijay Merchant Trophy, Cooch Behar Trophy, Col. CK Naidu Trophy, and interstate men’s (U-23) cricket tournament. He also holds a Sports department “B” certificate.
Jasinder’s exceptional PPSC score and sports quota dilemma highlighted
He said that Jasinder is a diligent student as well and that she obtained a score of 198.5 on the PPSC exam more than three years ago, which was far higher than the required percentage for the sports category. “132.5 was the cutoff for sports. He supposedly wasn’t taken into account for the sports quota, where he was the leader, and was simply included in the general quota. First, Jasinder Singh and his father went to the former chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh and complained that the sports department had not heard their case and that cricket was not regarded by the state’s PPSC as a sport for the purpose of job placement.
CM Mann exposes alleged bribery incident involving Channi’s nephew and promises action
“Capt Amarinder Singh attentively listened to us and remarked that cricket was very much a sport and that his family has supported it for many years. He claimed that our case was legitimate and would be forwarded to the cabinet, but he left his position in the middle of things, stated Jasinder. “We then went to meet CM Channi in the Punjab Bhavan and were advised to meet his nephew (Jashan),” continued Jasinder Singh’s father. W”e met him and he told us ‘tuhada kamm bann jayega’ and raised two fingers. We said we would give him Rs 2 lakh immediately. We were asked to come after two days.” “He requested us to come to the car when we returned after two days. He requested us to wait after we told him we had the money in our pockets and showed him Rs. 2 lakh. Later, CM Channi arrived at the location. Balbir Singh Sidhu, a former cabinet minister, was also present. He was very rude with us. Has your son won the Olympics or any other significant competition? he asked me. Even after the incident, we remained silent since we were still hunting for work. CM Mann said “Our government will take up the case of Jasinder and he will be given the job as per the merit of the case. The process has started.” In the meantime, Charanjit Singh Channi, a former chief minister, has refuted Bhagwant Mann’s accusations. Jasinder Singh allegedly received a government job offer in exchange for making accusations against him, according to Channi.
