The Punjab Congress leader is expected to be released on January 26. To celebrate the occasion, his posters have been put up across Ludhiana and Punjab where the cricketer-turned-politician has been termed as the ‘protector of Punjab’
However, his faith still hangs in balance as the Cabinet meeting of the Punjab government will not take place before February 3. Sidhu’s file is at CM Mann’s office who is yet to approve it. As of now, the names of the prisoners who will be releasing have not been approved.
Embracing the spirit of India’s Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Centre had directed the state government to approve exemptions to inmates who have diligently served their time in Jail. Sidhu has put a brilliant display of the camaraderie and served almost 68 per cent of his time behind the bars without a furlough, in accordance with law.
