Punjab doctors : Punjab government on Thursday announced to recruit 634 specialist doctors in the state. Announcing this on Thursday, Health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said the AAP government will make the people of Punjab healthy and safe. Recruitment of specialist doctors is a step in this direction, he said.

Better treatment
Recruitment of specialist doctors in government hospitals will facilitate people to get treatment at their native places.
The massive recruitment drive in the health department is an effort to fill vacancies of various specialities” as 103 in medicine, general surgery 78, gynaecology 100, paediatrics 122, anaesthesia 75, ortho 11, radiology 31, ENT 16, ophthalmology 16, skin 24, psychiatry 10, chest 6, pathology 12, microbiology 5, community medicine 4, BTO 9 and forensic medicine 12.

Ward attendants
On the occasion, the minister also handed over appointment letters to 12 ward attendants. AAP government is committed to provide employment to Punjabis, the minister said.
Punjab government has earlier too made attempts to hire specialist doctors but has not succeeded. Not only did they fail to fill all vacant posts, many of those who joined, left soon after some time. Low remuneration and lack of benefits as compared to other states are said to be keeping the medical professionals away from joining government service.
