Punjab News: Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener and Chief Minister of Delhi, has voiced his support for Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann amidst mounting opposition pressure following the arrest of Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira in a drug-related case. Kejriwal emphasized that the battle is not against any specific political party or leader but against the scourge of drugs.
During a rally, Kejriwal refrained from mentioning names but alluded to recent developments, stating, “Three to four days ago, a prominent individual was apprehended on drug trafficking charges. Various parties are targeting Mann, questioning his actions. I would like to pose a question: Should drug traffickers be arrested or not?”
Fight against drugs and corruption
He further appealed to all political parties to join forces in the fight against drugs and corruption, urging them to take decisive action if any member within their ranks is implicated in such cases.
The arrest of Sukhpal Singh Khaira has exacerbated tensions between the Punjab Congress and the AAP. While some Congress leaders believe that a potential alliance between the two parties won’t be impacted, a significant portion of state leaders opposes any such collaboration.
Kejriwal acknowledged that while the drug problem in Punjab has not been entirely eradicated, substantial progress has been made. He asserted that the state, once notorious for its drug issues, has taken significant steps in combating this menace, although there is still work to be done.
