On Thursday, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said that his government will open 16 new medical colleges across Punjab to deliver quality healthcare in every corner of the state. He said that children should study here only and in near future they won’t have to got to Ukraine to study medical. He also said that the government will soon green lit a mobile van service in rural areas for early detection of cancer.
Bhagwant Mann launched Indoor Patient Department (IPD) services at the Homi Bhabha Memorial Cancer Hospital in New Chandigarh. After the launch he spoke about the necessity to arm up against the cancer disease.
‘Health check on wheels’
CM Mann described mobile van service as ‘health check on wheels’ that will forge creation of a helathy and progressive Punjab. He raised concerns over spread of Hepatitis C and said these mobile vans will help in its early detection too. CM Mann said that people are mostly afraid of getting themselves diagnosed and state government has to step up because early detection is essential to combat the menace of cancer.
The Chief Minister also proclaimed that Punjab will soon be a hub of medical education in the country “The day is not far when the state will soon become a lighthouse for others in medical education.The state government is setting up 16 new medical colleges across Punjab with an aim to ensure that people get quality medical treatment in the state,” Mann said. He further added that students won’t need to go to places like Ukraine for study and this will also help in limiting the brain drain.
CM Mann lauds Tata Group
CM Bhagwant Mann praised the Tata group for its service to humanity and reaffirmed his government strive to completely eliminate cancer from Punjab. He also applauded the world class facilities provided by Tata Memorial Hospital at Sangrur and Mohali and described them as a boon. He also mentioned that government contributes 2 crore rupees annually for maintenance of the hospital.
The Tata Memorial center and the government pf Punjab has signed three MOUs. The first MoU is signed between the health department and Tata Memorial Hospital and concerns cancer treatment and training of government hospital staff by TMC. The second MoU has been signed with Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training for training in short term medical courses that will create a skilled workforce which will strengthen state’s ability to fight cancer. The third MoU is signed with Department of School Education for to generate public awareness regarding the disease.
