Punjab News: Manpreet Singh Badal, a former finance minister of Punjab and current member of the BJP, has an arrest warrant out for him. After the Punjab Police today issued a Look-Out Circular (LOC) at all airports against him, this happened a few hours later. In connection with alleged irregularities in the purchase of a property in Bathinda, the state’s vigilance bureau filed a complaint against him yesterday.
Details of Manpreet Badal’s Pre-Arrest Bail Plea and Upcoming Legal Actions
Manpreet Badal had submitted a pre-arrest bail plea that was scheduled to be heard on September 26; however, his attorney has now withdrawn it and announced that they will now submit a new application to the court now that a First Information Report, or FIR, has been filed. In a land allotment case, a FIR was filed against him and five other people under the Information Technology Act, sections of the law relating to cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy, as well as 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act — punishment for a public servant who commits criminal misconduct. His home in the Sri Muktsar Sahib district was raided yesterday by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.
Chief Minister Mann Criticizes Manpreet Badal’s Response to Legal Troubles
Yesterday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann attacked Badal, claiming that individuals who once boasted of their honesty are now flitting from pillar to post in an effort to save face. “There is a huge difference between speaking the truth and standing by it,” the chief minister said. He continued, “Previously, these leaders had pledged to wait for whatever course of action was taken against them, but now they are looking for legal protection against arrest.”
Allegations of Land Conversion by Manpreet Badal in Political Controversy
Sarup Chand Singla, a politician in the BJP who previously belonged to the Shiromani Akali Dal, has claimed that Badal had exploited his position as a minister in the previous Congress government to turn two commercial plots into a residential plot for himself. After leaving the Congress in January of this year, Badal joined the BJP. Following his interrogation in July, Badal accused Chief Minister Mann of attempting to muzzle the criticism of his political rivals.
