Punjab Minister Seeks Support from Canadian MPs to Address Student Deportation Issue
In addition, Dhaliwal has written to all Canadian MPs of Punjabi descent to urge them to resolve the problem of these students for the sake of the kids’ future. Dhaliwal asked S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, to become involved in the situation on Tuesday. Dhaliwal gave orders to all deputy commissioners and senior superintendents of police at a meeting with civil and police authorities connected to the NRI department here, instructing them to examine the paperwork from travel agencies and immigration agencies and submit a report by July 10. He raised alarm over the large number of illicit immigration agencies run by travel agents. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, according to Dhaliwal, has already issued explicit directives to upgrade the system. According to him, there will be less opportunity for human trafficking through unauthorised travel and immigration firms if the system is open and free of corruption. He announced that Punjab would soon begin a special campaign against phoney immigration and travel businesses in order to ensure that no one was involved in human trafficking. Dhaliwal added that the authorities should be alerted if any immigrant Punjabi has been purposefully named as a suspect in a false case in the previous ten years. He said that these incidents would be looked upon, and the victims would receive justice.

He added that NRI meetings would be held for the first time in Punjabi villages where immigrants had made a name for themselves nationally or internationally or had performed admirably in those communities. Dhaliwal added that the district-level NRI meetings would take place from July 15 to August 30. During such sessions, he asked all NRI Punjabis to bring their difficulties, and efforts would be made to address them immediately. He gave instructions to the police and government servants that the unresolved complaints of the migrating Punjabis should be rectified by June 30. The first NRI meeting received a total of 609 complaints, of which 522 have been handled and 87 are still pending, according to the statement. Dhaliwal also mentioned a plan to introduce a new NRI policy by September 30 in order to address all issues and grievances of NRI Punjabis.
