Punjab Transport Minister Cracks Down on Corruption, Bus Drivers Arrested for Diesel Theft

Punjab News: S. Laljit Singh Bhullar, the transport minister for Punjab, announced on Thursday that two government bus drivers had been apprehended for stealing 42 litres of diesel. The Minister’s Flying Squad was established to combat corruption inside the department. In addition, a conductor was busted for taking money from passengers but failing to give them tickets. While one bus that was operating without any documentation has been impounded, three private buses have been cited for operating without legitimate documentation.

Two Bus Drivers Apprehended for Diesel Theft

Laljit Singh Bhullar continued by revealing that the Flying Squad had carried out a raid last night at around 10:15 p.m. in Sirhind and had apprehended driver Sukhveer Singh after he had stolen 22 litres of diesel from Bus No. PB-65ET 0542 of PUNBUS Dipot Chandigarh. Similar to this, the squad apprehended Gagandeep Singh, the driver of Bus No. PB-02-EH 3066 of PUNBUS Amritsar-Sahib-2, at Rajpura around 1:30 AM for stealing 20 litres of diesel. The Flying Squad reported conductor Karamjeet Singh of Bus No. PB-10GX 8526 of the Ludhiana Depot for failing to provide tickets to the passengers despite receiving Rs. 180 from them at the checking at Kupp. As a result, the Minister’s Flying Squad checked private buses operating without appropriate documentation, such as licences, taxes, and insurance, at the Ludhiana bus station. During the checking spree, JR Coach’s bus with number PB-10HF 0345 was cited for operating without a tax, insurance, or pollution certificate, while another JR Coach bus with number PB-10HH 6034 was seized for operating without proper documentation. Additionally, Malwa Roadways buses PB-29X 7866 from Moga and PB-04AC 3066 from Giddarbaha were cited for operating without insurance and a pollution certificate, respectively.

Six Buses Caught Operating Off-Schedule by Flying Squad

Six buses were reportedly travelling on unplanned routes, according to the Flying Squad. The Patti Depot Bus No. PB-02-EG 4389 was discovered to be travelling on an unauthorised route while being checked at Ucha Pind. The bus numbers PB-02-EH 2672 from Amritsar-1 Depot and PB-08-CX 6984 from Jalandhar-1 Depot were also discovered to be operating on unscheduled routes during the Gurudaspur check. Bus numbers PB-02-EG 9438 from Patti Depot and PB-02-DR 2798 from Tarn Taran Depot were discovered in Phagwara on routes other than those that were planned. During inspection in Kartarpur, Bus No. PB-46M 8995 from Patti Depot was discovered to be travelling on an unauthorised route. During the raid in Sirhind, a security guard was discovered to be absent from duty. S. Laljit Singh Bhullar, the transport minister, gave the department’s authorities the order to discipline the insubordinate workers right away.
