Punjab Weather Update: The next 24 hours are expected to be dry over Punjab; light to moderate rain is likely to fall in isolated locations on June 18 and at a few locations on June 19 to 21 over Haryana and Chandigarh; light to moderate rain is also likely to fall in isolated locations on June 17 and at a few locations on June 18 to 21 over Punjab, and after that, light rain is likely to fall in isolated locations over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.

Scattered Thunderstorms and Lightning

This phase is probably going to be accompanied by scattered thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (between 30 and 40 kmph) over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on June 18–20. Parts of southern and western Punjab and Haryana are seeing high maximum temperatures, with maximums close to 45–46° Celsius. On the other side, Chandigarh and other northern locations experience maximum temperatures between 44 and 45°C.

Stable Maximum Temperatures Expected

The maximum temperature is expected to remain rather stable over the next three days, dropping by two to three degrees Celsius. For the next one to two days, the maximum temperatures over portions of Punjab, Haryana, and the southwest are probably going to be between 46 and 47°C. In a similar vein, 44–46°C temperatures are predicted for the northern regions of Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh.

Potential for Severe Heat Wave in Southern and Western Regions

This means that from June 16 to June 18, 2024, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh will continue to experience heat waves. During this time, there is a chance of isolated severe heat wave conditions over the southern and western regions of Haryana and Punjab, where the highest temperature in certain areas could reach 46–47°C. Over the following two days, there will probably be some isolated warm nights across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.
