Punjab: Giving a big relief to the commuters, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has closed three more toll plazas. Due to which the area of about 105 km has now become toll free. Meanwhile, CM Mann accused Plaza of connivance with Akali-BJP and Congress leaders to loot people. After closing the toll plazas at Majri (SBS Nagar), Nangal Shaheedan and Mangarh (Hoshiarpur), the Chief Minister said that the public would now be able to save about Rs 10.52 lakh daily.
Terms expired ten years ago
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the toll plaza should have been closed about 10 years ago as their terms had expired. But the then government had colluded with the companies running the plaza. He said that it is unfortunate that the leaders of the state have backstabbed the people for their vested interests.
Roads could not be built on time
CM Mann said that under the Rs 123.64 crore agreement signed with Bajwa on December 6, 2005, Rajdeep Tollways was to construct a 104.96 km long road. He alleged that the Congress government led by Amarinder Singh gave Rs 49.45 crore as subsidy to the company. Mann said that the company operating the three toll plazas was supposed to complete the asphalting work by March 5, 2013, but it was completed on April 30, 2015, after 786 days. He alleged that the company could have been fined Rs 61.60 crore for this delay, but was waived off by the SAD-BJP government.
The second asphalting was to be completed by March 5, 2018, but it was completed on November 9, 2020. According to CM Mann, the company was not even given notice regarding the delay of 979 days. He said that for the third time the work was to be completed by January 2023, but it was never completed.
