After a prolonged wait, 12,500 contractual teachers in Punjab have finally received their appointment letters and have been officially confirmed in their positions. The Aam Aadmi Party, which had pledged to regularize the services of contract teachers, has now fulfilled its promise.
Having struggled for nearly a decade to secure permanent employment, these teachers will now be entitled to a monthly salary of Rs 22,500. Additionally, the government has assured them of a career progression policy, providing further support for their professional growth. The appointment letter distribution event was held at Tagore Theater in Sector-18, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
In his address, the Chief Minister pledged to regularize more contractual teachers soon, emphasizing that the government’s treasury is not empty, and sincere intentions drive action. He emphasized that fulfilling promises is not an act of favor but a duty of the government.
For these teachers who have served as contractual teachers in Punjab, the long wait has finally come to an end. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains hailed the day as historic, with the government fulfilling yet another commitment. The teachers whose positions have been regularized include education providers, IEEGS, STR, AIE, and special inclusion teachers.
The main function took place in Chandigarh, and similar programs were organized in schools across the state to acknowledge the decades-long service rendered by these teachers. Principals, school committee members, representatives of panchayats and urban bodies, education officers, and legislators all participated in these special events. The Education Minister extended his congratulations to all the teachers receiving their confirmation.
