Bhagwant Mann assures action after a video of sacrilege at a gurdwara goes viral

On Monday, a person entered Gurudwara Kotwali Sahib in Morinda town of Ropar district in Punjab and suddenly attacked Granthi. After the incident, the Sangat present inside the Gurdwara unitedly caught hold of the attacker and took him outside after beating him. The CCTV footage of this incident of sacrilege in the Gurudwara has gone viral. After getting information about the matter, the Ropar police team reached the spot.

In the CCTV footage viral on social media, it can be seen that the priests were reciting Gurbani at the Gurdwara in Ropar when a hairy man wearing shoes and a turban on his head entered the Gurdwara and went to the sanctum sanctorum. After this suddenly started fighting with the Granthis who were reciting Gurbani there.

Tension in the area due to the incident of sacrilege, interrogation of the attacker in police custody

After the matter of sacrilege in the Gurudwara came to the fore, the local people started protesting by blocking the road in Morinda. The situation in Morinda turned tense after news of the sacrilege spread. Regarding the matter, Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Rupnagar district, Navneet Singh Mahal said that a person had committed the act of sacrilege by entering the Gurudwara in Morinda town. The assailant assaulted the granthis performing kirtan in the gurudwara.

SP Mahal said that the attacker is being interrogated in custody. Along with identifying the attacker, the police is still trying to find out the reason behind the attack. After this further legal action will be taken. At the same time, Ropar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vivek Sheel Sono said that the police have started investigating the incident.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji should be respected first – Bhagwant Mann

Discussion has intensified in the entire state regarding this incident of sacrilege in Morinda of Ropar. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has assured strictest punishment to the accused in this case. CM Mann tweeted in Gurmukhi, ‘The incident at Gurudwara Sri Kotwali Sahib in Morinda is highly condemnable and no one will be spared for this incident. Whoever commits an act of blasphemy will be punished severely… For us, the respect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is first…’

After this incident of sacrilege, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami has taken strong notice and demanded strict and precedent-like action against the accused. Dhami said that if severe punishment is given, no one would dare to commit a crime. At the same time, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also tweeted demanding strictest punishment for the accused.
