The Chandigarh administration has introduced a new system for the allocation of firecracker stalls this festive season. As per the directive of UT Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit, the administration will allow only the sale of green firecrackers during Diwali and Gurupurva. For the first time, approximately 96 firecracker stalls will be established in various markets and locations within the city.
Applicants can apply online from the comfort of their homes
To streamline the allocation process and reduce queues, the National Informatics Center (NIC) in Chandigarh has developed an online portal for firecracker stall applications. Applicants can apply online from the comfort of their homes. The application fee for each area will be around Rs 500, and the fees can also be paid online. An online system for a lucky draw has been implemented to ensure transparency in stall allotment.
The NIC team has been diligently working on this system for several days, and it has received approval from the Deputy Commissioner. The online application portal is set to launch, and applicants will have a window of 10 to 12 days to apply for stalls. This new approach is expected to improve transparency and convenience while obtaining firecracker stall licenses and reduce the need for in-person visits to government offices.
Moreover, NIC recently introduced a software that allows individuals to take their learning license test and obtain licenses from the comfort of their homes, further streamlining administrative processes in Chandigarh.
