Chandigarh: At Chandigarh University in Punjab’s Mohali, protests have started after a female was accused of online-leaking personal videos of her dorm mates, which allegedly caused suicides. However, the reports of suicides have not yet been verified. According to sources, the police have detained and are questioning the suspected student. According to the police, a complaint has been registered at the Gharuan police station under Sections 354 c of the IPC and the IT Act against the accused girl. The defendant is an MBA first-year student. Everything began following the disclosure of footage showing roughly 60 girls taking baths in the hostel after midnight. They were provided by the defendant to a young man in Shimla, who posted them online.

Several protest-related videos and pictures are currently trending on social media. “Chandigarh University experiences a protest when someone secretly taped videos of girls using bathroom in a dormitory and posted them online. According to a student, the university administration is attempting to suppress the demonstration,” a Twitter user stated.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Appeals To Remain Calm
The students who are protesting have been told to settle down by education minister Harjot Singh Bains. “It’s a delicate issue that concerns the dignity of our sisters and daughters. It is a test of our civilization right now, therefore everyone, including the media, should use extreme caution, he added in a tweet.
Accused has been taken into custody
As of right moment, the police have denied any occurrence involving a death, injury, or suicide attempt. The Mohali SSP reportedly stated, “It’s a question of a video being filmed by a girl student and distributed. The accused student has been taken into custody, and a FIR has been filed in the case. There have been no deaths associated with this occurrence. According to medical data, there have been no reported suicide attempts.”

An probe is in progress, according to Manisha Gulati, chair of the Punjab State Women Commission. She told ANI, “This is a serious situation, and an inquiry is ongoing. I’m here to reassure the parents of every pupil that the accused will not escape punishment.”
