Cheema thanks GST Council decision to clear Rs 995 crore pending dues

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has thanked the GST Council for reducing GST on pencil sharpeners from 18 per cent to 12 per cent. The 49th GST Council meeting was held under the chairmanship of Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Saturday.

Students and their parents will get some relief

Participating in the meeting, Sardar Harpal Singh Cheema said that this decision would provide some relief to the students and their parents. Cheema, while participating in the 48th meeting of the GST Council through video conferencing on December 17, opposed the proposal to consider GST on pencil sharpeners at 18 percent instead of the existing slab of 12 percent.

The Finance Minister of Punjab also thanked the GST Council for the decision to clear the entire outstanding GST compensation of June 2022. He said that this has been possible due to the concerted and sustained efforts of the Punjab Government headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He said that this decision would help the state to get Rs 995 crore as GST compensation due for June 2022.
