In the general budget for the year 2023-24 presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, many flaws have been found by the ruling party of Punjab. The center has turned down the demand of Punjab’s special package, but in the budget there is a proposal to open 6 unity malls and 3 nursing colleges for Punjab. These three nursing colleges will be built in Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Malerkotla. In the Union Budget, it has been announced to open Unity Mall under One District One Product. The districts where Unity Mall will be opened include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran and Fazilka.
The Punjab government, being a border state, had demanded Rs 1000 crore for the modernization of the police, but this demand has been ignored in the Union budget. In the new budget, the scheme of giving 50-year loan without interest to the states can also be of partial benefit to Punjab. The farmers of the state can also benefit from the decision to increase the number of agricultural credit cards and the amount increased in the budget for loans.
CM Bhagwant Mann is angry with the budget
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has said that he is pained to know that all the genuine demands of Punjab have been completely turned down and the state has not been included anywhere in the Union Budget. He said this was the second attempt by the BJP-led central government to deliberately ignore Punjab’s contribution after the state’s tableau was kept out of the parade on the occasion of Republic Day.
The Chief Minister said that being a border state, he had demanded Rs 1000 crore from the Center for the modernization of BSF and Punjab Police. He said that this fund is necessary to prevent smuggling of drugs and weapons across the border, especially through hi-tech drones. The budget was not allotted due to which the security of the border state is being put in complete danger.
Ignoring the farmers too
Similarly, the Chief Minister said that during the pre-budget meeting, he had also talked about the need to start Vande Bharat trains from Amritsar and Bathinda to Delhi for the convenience of the people. He said that along with the idea of connecting the five Takhts of Sikhs by rail, this demand was also completely ignored. Bhagwant Mann said that the government is running away even from giving minimum support price to the farmers, which is very unfortunate.
