Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann reached Nawanshahr on Friday. Here he unveiled the statue of Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri in village Chandpur Roorkee. Family members of Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha and Minister Brahm Shankar Zimpa were also present in the ceremony.
Balbir Singh, a family member of Brigadier Kuldeep Chandpuri, welcomed CM Bhagwant Mann and others. He spoke about the valor and patriotism of Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri, who commanded 120 soldiers and fought 3500 soldiers and 60 tanks in the 1971 war.
Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha and Minister Brahm Shankar Zimpa were honored by the family of CM Bhagwant Mann and Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri. After this, Deputy Speaker Jai Kishan Rodhi and Rupnagar MLA Dinesh Chadha, Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board Chairman Dr. Sunny Ahluwalia and others were honored.
The land of Chandpur Roorkee produced heroes
CM Punjab Bhagwant Mann started his address with his old style poetry. He said that the land of village Chandpur Roorkee produced bravehearts to protect the country. Mann said that this was not a political function, but a call to pay obeisance to the freedom fighters. He said that when people are taking rest, soldiers like Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri are guarding the country with promptness in -30/40 degree.
CM Mann told about the bravery, courage and passion of Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri, who devoted his life to the country. He said that it is a matter of pride for about one hundred youths from this village to be in the army-police.
Taunted the old governments
CM Punjab Bhagwant Mann narrated an incident that happened to him. He said that when he became MP for the first time, some people of a village asked him for Rs 3 lakh for the wall of the mortuary. Hearing this, he asked the villagers to build school rooms, install solar energy plant, RO and get a martyr’s statue made instead of the wall of the mortuary, but on hearing this, the villagers could not believe that the MP or the leader could do this. Mann said that the previous governments did not allow the mental level of the people to rise. This is the reason why development could not happen in Punjab.
CM said- development for road and canal will start soon
CM Punjab Bhagwant Mann talked about making Dallewal to Chandpur Roorkee road 18 feet and running Kandi canal soon. He took information in this regard from village sarpanch Binder Kumar. Maan said that if we fix all the canals/systems, then we will be able to provide canal water to every household, farm and industry. He asked the Sarpanch to give the demand in writing to the MLA. Mann talked about building a medical college in this area. He said that there is no shortage in the treasury of the government.
