The Punjab government has decided to close down the liquor factory located in Zira. CM Bhagwant Mann gave this information by tweeting. Mann announced through Twitter that no one will be allowed to pollute the environment of Punjab and hence we are going to close the liquor factory located in Zira. He said that we have taken this decision after consulting legal experts.
CM Mann further said that whoever takes the law into his hands in future, no matter how big a person he is, will be dealt with strictly. He said that whoever violates the law made by the government, be it the transport sector or the mining sector, will be dealt with strictly.
BKU welcomed the government’s decision
At the same time, Harinder Singh Lakhowal, general secretary of a section of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), has welcomed this decision of the Punjab government. He said that the government delayed in taking this decision, but the government has taken a better decision belatedly. He said that the farmers had raised their voice against the pollution caused by this factory, the farmers protested for a month demanding the closure of the factory, the weather and the local administration and the police were right.
Farmers had demonstrated for the closure of the factory
The farmers started protesting on July 24 for the closure of this factory, which ended on Tuesday after running for 177 days. On the request of the protestors, the state government had taken samples of underground water and soil to study the effect of pollution in the area. The reports of these samples are expected to come next week. This liquor factory was started in 2006 in Zira.
