The process of recruitment of college lecturers is also being expedited by the government, the services of contract and ad-hoc personnel are also being regularized rapidly.
With local body elections round the corner, the party is looking at faster delivery of government services to reach out to its voters in Punjab.
The party’s National Council meeting in New Delhi today reportedly did not discuss any issue related to the state. However, sources in AAP say that the national executive meeting held just before the council meeting discussed speeding up services and promises made to the public. Sources say that though “report cards of all functionaries in the party and government” are ready, it was not discussed. It is likely to be discussed later in the core group of the party.
From Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, Housing Minister Aman Arora, Chief Whip of the party in the Assembly Baljinder Kaur and MLA Sarvjit Kaur Manuke are members of the party’s national executive.
With the party having achieved the status of a national party after winning five assembly seats in Gujarat, the focus is now on making Punjab a model of governance. It can then be shown to the rest of the country ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Also, fast delivery of announcements made by the party is essential for the ruling party in the state to win the local body elections.
Elections to five municipal corporations (Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Phagwara, Amritsar and Patiala) are due. Earlier, Local Government Minister Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar had talked about holding elections in January.
However, as state leaders got busy campaigning for the Gujarat elections, there was a delay in the implementation of several announcements made by the government. As a result, the ruling party is expected to postpone the elections by a few months. The time will be utilized by the government for regularization of jobs, recruitment of masses and wooing the masses to create a sustainable mohalla clinic model in the state.
Before these local body elections, the party has decided to convey the message of giving relief to the public by giving 300 units of free electricity in this era of inflation.
Government’s efforts to tackle unemployment by faster regularization of jobs for contractual/ad-hoc employees in government departments and by advertising more posts and initiating recruitment will also be highlighted.
The state government has released the schedule for the appointment of 1,800 constables and 300 sub-inspectors within days of the Punjab cabinet’s decision last week. The process of recruitment of lecturers in colleges is also being expedited. The state government will also make every possible effort to woo the investors.
