Raghav Chadha: AAP MP Raghav Chadha recently commended Arvind Kejriwal’s governance, noting its influence as a benchmark for global politics. His remarks came in response to Donald Trump’s announcement during his 2024 US presidential campaign that he would cut energy and electricity prices in half within a year. This proposal mirrors initiatives that Kejriwal has long implemented for the people of Delhi, such as free electricity for up to 200 units and a 50% subsidy for 201 to 400 units.
Raghav Chadha Highlights Kejriwal’s Impact
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Raghav Chadha retweeted Donald Trump’s post, emphasizing how Trump’s promise for 50% off on electricity bills illustrates the effectiveness of Kejriwal’s governance model. He stated, “Trump’s 50% off on electricity bills shows how @ArvindKejriwal has set the benchmark for governance globally! His governance model—affordable electricity, free water, quality healthcare, and free world-class education—is a shining example of welfarism done right. The world takes notice.”
Donald Trump’s Energy Policy
In his campaign, Donald Trump declared, “I will cut the price of ENERGY and ELECTRICITY in HALF within 12 months. We will seriously expedite our environmental approvals and quickly double our electricity capacity. This will DRIVE DOWN INFLATION and make AMERICA and MICHIGAN the best place on earth to build a factory…” This pledge has drawn comparisons to Kejriwal’s policies, which have made significant strides in improving the living standards of Delhi residents.
Kejriwal Responds with a Touch of Humor
In a light-hearted response, Arvind Kejriwal also shared Trump’s post, quipping, “Trump has announced that he will reduce electricity rates by half. Free ki revri reaches the US…” This reference to “revri” (a popular Indian sweet) symbolizes the free services the AAP government has been known for, as they have previously faced criticism for offering these “freebies” to the public.
AAP’s Commitment to Welfare
Earlier, the BJP had criticised AAP and Kejriwal for their initiatives, which they labeled as “revri politics.” Arvind Kejriwal distributed small packets containing six “revris,” representing various free services: “This packet has six revris—free electricity, free water supply, Teerth Yatra for senior citizens, free travel for women, free education, and health. The seventh is coming soon. Women in Delhi are going to get Rs 1,000 in their bank accounts.” Ahead of the Delhi elections in February, the AAP government pledged that all women in the capital, who do not pay taxes or receive pensions, would receive an aid of Rs 1,000 each month.
Looking Ahead to the US Presidential Election
As the 2024 US presidential election approaches, Trump faces off against the Democratic Party’s Kamala Harris in a heated competition, with the election set for November 5, 2024. It will be interesting to see how Trump’s promise of free electricity, which bears a striking resemblance to Arvind Kejriwal’s initiatives, influences his campaign and voter sentiment.
