Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Sushil Rinku has won the by-election in Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. The AAP candidate trounced her nearest rival Congress candidate Karamjit Kaur Chowdhary. As per the latest trends available on the website of the Election Commission, of the 8.87 lakh votes polled so far, over 7.10 lakh votes have been counted. AAP supporters are already celebrating as they are confident of their candidate Rinku’s victory. Rinku has so far received 2,43,285 votes, while Karamjit Kaur has received 1,94,805 votes.
The special thing is that Sushil Kumar Rinku is a former Congress MLA. He started his political career from the Congress party itself. However, before the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election, he joined the Aam Aadmi Party. Please tell that Rinku has been an active member of NSUI in 1990. During the by-elections of the Akali Dal in 1992, Sushil Kumar Rinku prepared the youth for the elections and worked as a booth level worker.
Thereafter, in the year 994 Sushil Rinku was elected as the President of the Cultural Society of Sri Guru Ravidas at DAV College Jalandhar. He worked as a worker during the Lok Sabha elections in the year 2002. After this he came in the eyes of senior Congress leaders. He contested the civic elections in 2006 and was elected a corporator. He won by 2500 votes.
Rinku’s family was also in Congress
Sushil Rinku, who made AAP win the Jalandhar bypoll, did a lot of service to the Congress party. His family also remained associated with the Congress. His uncle and father worked as party workers in almost every assembly and parliament election. According to media reports, during the Emergency in 1977, his entire family was jailed for supporting the Congress party.
