Punjab News Update: The Punjab government, headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is taking strong measures against illegal travel agents, institutions, and agencies operating within the state.
According to Punjab’s Minister of NRI Affairs and Administrative Reforms, Mr. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, thorough checks of licenses and necessary approvals are currently being carried out in all districts.
Following a comprehensive review meeting concerning NRI (Non-Resident Indian) affairs with senior officials from various departments, Mr. Dhaliwal revealed that a total of 7179 travel agents, agencies, and offices have been identified. Among these, 3547 have already undergone inspections by district teams. This scrutiny has led to the discovery of 271 unauthorized organizations, against whom legal action has been taken, resulting in 25 FIRs being registered. Furthermore, out of the 609 complaints received during the NRI conference, 588 have been successfully resolved, while the remaining 21 cases are currently being addressed.
Mr. Dhaliwal affirmed the Punjab government’s dedication to promptly addressing the concerns of NRI Punjabis and other related matters. District Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), also serving as nodal officers, have been instructed to complete inspections of travel agents, agencies, and offices within their respective districts by September 10. Institutions and agencies willing to operate lawfully and in accordance with prescribed regulations will have the opportunity to adhere to the stipulated conditions.
The NRI Minister has directed nodal officers in districts to prioritize the handling of all NRI-related cases forwarded to them by the department.
