The tussle between Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is continuously increasing. The Governor has written a letter to the CM. The Governor’s House says that if there is no reply to the letter in a fortnight, then legal advice will be taken. Punjab Chief Minister Mann told Governor Purohit that his government was answerable to Punjabis and not to any governor appointed by the Centre.
The letter sought details regarding the selection of school principals sent to Singapore for training. The Governor has sought reply from the Chief Minister regarding the appointment of the Chairman of Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation (INFOTECH). The governor says that the chairman is a person of criminal tendency. There is a case of kidnapping and land grabbing against them. According to the Governor, what message will be sent to the public by the appointment of such people. The Governor of Punjab asked Chief Minister Mann to reply to his letter within a fortnight. He said that failing this, he would be forced to take legal advice.
In the letter issued by the Governor, it has been said that in your reply you said that the CM of Punjab has been made by public opinion. He has no objection to his words. But as the head of the state, it is your duty to run the government according to the constitution and not according to your wish. The governor says that if he sees anything wrong happening, he will warn the government. This is his legal responsibility. There can be no laxity in this.
My govt not answerable to you: Punjab CM
In his retort, Bhagwant Mann said that he is answerable to the three crore people of Punjab. They are not answerable to any Governor appointed by the Centre. In his tweet, Mann said that the issues on which you have expressed concern are in the jurisdiction of all the states. There is no point in the Governor speaking in this. The government is aware of its responsibility and is taking all decisions in the public interest.
