On Monday, there was an incident in the Rajya Sabha where Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh was suspended from the session, leading to outrage among the Opposition members. Despite the suspension, Singh remained in the House, resulting in the day’s session being adjourned. The suspension and the Manipur violence issue were major points of contention during the session.
Opposition leaders plan overnight protest in Parliament complex
Singh questioned why the Prime Minister was not addressing the issue of violence in Manipur in Parliament and accused the government of avoiding discussions on the matter. He vowed to continue his protest on the issue even after his suspension.
The suspension was a result of Singh’s “unruly behavior” in the House earlier in the day. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar had cautioned him after he rushed to the well of the House and pointed at the Chair while demanding a discussion on the Manipur crisis. Later, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal moved a motion for Singh’s suspension, which was adopted by the House through a voice vote.
Opposition parties criticized the government’s action against Singh, viewing it as an attempt to silence their voices. They urged the chairman to revoke the suspension and condemned the government’s approach to handling the matter. Protests were expected to continue throughout the night over this issue.
