Punjab: After IB flags a threat to life, 4 BJP leaders receive X-category security

According to a source from the home affairs ministry, four BJP leaders in Punjab received “X-category” protection after an Intelligence Bureau (IB) assessment suggested a threat. In response to a referral from the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has upgraded the security protection for four Punjab-based BJP leaders to the X category. Ministers who have received X and Y category security

Balbir Singh Sidhu, Gurpreet Singh Kanga, Jagdip Singh Nakai, and Amarjeet Singh Tikka, all former ministers in the Punjab Cabinet, have received X-category protection.
Five BJP leaders in Punjab received “Y-category” security earlier in October as a result of a threat identified in an Intelligence Bureau assessment. The ministry was informed by the IB, and security was increased.

India’s Security Categories

The security category is divided into five groups and given to a person once the hazards have been evaluated. Security levels X, Y, Z, Z+, SPG, and others are offered.

Athletes, celebrities, politicians, VIPs, and VVIPs all have access to this kind of security.
Although Z+ is the greatest level of protection, those who are most influential in the nation, such as the current and former prime ministers, are also covered by SPG.

The Y category is given a permanent protection for 11 individuals, consisting of two Personal Security Officers (PSOs). The protection cover for this, India’s fifth critical security level, consists of two security experts who are both armed police personnel.
