Voting is taking place in Gidderbaha, Barnala, Chabbewal, and Dera Baba Nanak constituencies. The Chief Minister, through a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, appealed to voters in these constituencies. He highlighted the importance of voting, stating:
“In the four constituencies where bypolls are taking place today, I appeal to the wise voters of these areas to exercise their right to vote while keeping in mind the vision of Baba Sahib and the martyrs for a prosperous Punjab. Vote for whoever you wish, but make sure it’s your own decision. Play your part in ensuring a bright future for Punjab. Do not treat today as just another holiday—make sure to go out and cast your vote.”
Voter Turnout in Punjab Assembly Bypolls 2024
As per data released by the Election Commission, the average voter turnout in the four constituencies stood at 20.76% as of 11:00 AM. Here’s a constituency-wise breakdown:
- Gidderbaha reported the highest turnout at 35%.
- Dera Baba Nanak recorded 19.4%.
- Barnala saw 16.1%.
- Chabbewal registered the lowest turnout at 12.71%.
Key Candidates and Transparent Voting Process
The bypolls are a crucial test for prominent leaders, including Manpreet Badal, Amrita Warring (wife of Raja Warring), Dr. Ishank, and Jatinder Kaur. To ensure free and fair elections, the state government and the Election Commission have implemented stringent measures.
