The Punjab government has taken several major steps on Sunday amid criticism from opposition parties on the issue of law and order. These include banning songs promoting gun culture and violence, and the public display of firearms. According to an official order, the state government has also ordered a review of arms licenses in the next three months.
The order said that directions have also been issued to register an FIR against those indulging in hate speech against any community. The AAP government is facing criticism from opposition parties over the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Two major incidents have happened in the state recently. On November 4, Sudhir Suri, leader of Shiv Sena (Taksali) and Pradeep Singh, a follower of Dera Sacha Sauda, were killed on November 10.
Ban on songs glorifying violence
The state home department wrote a letter to the police chief, police commissioners and senior superintendents of police saying that the chief minister has issued instructions to take steps to maintain law and order in the state. According to the order issued on Sunday, there should be a complete ban on songs glorifying weapons and violence.
Arms licenses will be reviewed in 3 months
The order states that there should be a complete ban on public display of weapons. There should be a complete ban on the carrying and display of weapons in public functions, religious places, marriage ceremonies and other events. The order further states that the arms license should be reviewed within three months and if the arms license has been issued to any wrong person, it should be canceled immediately. It has been said in the order that in the coming days, surprise inspections should be done at different places.
