Punjab

Taking a historic decision, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann approved the UGC pay scales for the teaching faculty of Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary Sciences University (GADVASU).

Chief Minister said that “implementation of UGC pay scales for teaching faculty would incur an annual cost of Rs 66 crore while the same facility for teaching staff in GADVASU would cost Rs 20 crore annually.”

‘This amount was nothing before the immense contribution’

However, he said that this amount was nothing compared to the huge contribution of the faculties of the two universities in boosting crop production and ancillary agricultural activities.

The Chief Minister has also approved the implementation of revised pay scales for the non-teaching staff of both the universities. He said that 53 crore will be spent on implementing the revised pay scale for the non-teaching staff of PAU, while Rs 10 crore will have to be paid annually on the revised pay scale for the non-teaching staff of Gadvasu.

Bhagwant Mann said that the state government is committed to comprehensive reforms in these two universities to further research work for the welfare of the farming community.

Bhagwant Mann expressed hope that the teaching and non-teaching staff of these two universities would make more concerted efforts to change the fortunes of the farmers on the one hand and make Punjab the leading state of the country on the other
