In a recent development, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has made a significant announcement regarding the ongoing dispute between his government and Patwaris-lawmen. Despite the ongoing tensions, this dispute has opened doors for job opportunities for the unemployed in the state. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took to Twitter today to share this positive news, revealing plans to distribute appointment letters to 710 Patwaris who successfully passed the test on September 8.

Notably, the Chief Minister didn’t miss the opportunity to take a subtle dig at the Patwaris, expressing hope that these new recruits will usher in a new era of a corruption-free society. He stressed that they would play a crucial role in ensuring that people are not subjected to undue disturbances.
Previously, when the government enforced the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) to quell the Patwaris’ strike, they responded by limiting their work to their designated circles. In response, the government decided to deploy 741 Patwaris who were in training, a move that was personally announced by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
According to the CM, these under-training Patwaris had completed 15 months of their 18-month training program, and they are now being assigned to vacant Patwar Circles.
Furthermore, following CM Bhagwant Mann’s directive, the Home Department has conducted verifications and completed other necessary formalities for the 710 Patwaris seeking appointments. Moreover, an additional 586 Patwari positions are soon to be created, with the government green-lighting these posts. The department has been instructed to organize competitive examinations for these new positions.
This announcement signifies a significant step toward addressing unemployment in Punjab and improving the administration of Patwar Circles, as the state’s leadership works towards creating a transparent and corruption-free environment.
