Punjab finance department gives nod to double ‘war jagir’

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Monday said that the government has doubled the Jangi Jagir to Rs 20,000 per annum under the ‘Punjab War Awards Act’, 1948.

Harpal Singh Cheema said that since June 2013 no increase was made in Jangi Jagir. He further said that those whose parents, who are residents of Punjab and their only son or two to three sons, served in the Indian Army during World War II or the wars of 1962 and 1971, would be honored by the Punjab government. But annually 10,000 rupees Jangi Jagir was paid. It has been decided to increase it to Rs 20,000.

The minister said that keeping in view the current level of inflation, it is the duty of the government to increase the war estates of the parents of the country’s heroes. He said that the Finance Department has approved the proposal sent by the Defense Services Welfare Department in this regard.
